Jane & Aaron Lankford - First Year of Marriage

Jane & Aaron Lankford - First Year of Marriage
Published on

If I could describe our first year of marriage, MAGICAL would be the word I choose.

This was the year of the wedding! Our ceremony was on a small remote island in Florida with no cars or shops. We were there for a week with the wedding ceremony on Wednesday. On Monday, the bachelor party did a deep-sea fishing excursion, but were sadly disappointed that the weather didn’t cooperate. We had an amazing pig roast Tuesday night before the big day, then surrounded by 30 or so friends and family from across the nation, we tied the knot in an overflowing chapel on the south side of the island. Everyone was then carted (that’s right, in golf carts) to the north side of the island to get aboard the pirate taxi (and 3 other boats) to take us to The Fishery, a local pub about 20 minutes by boat off the island. There we feasted on the freshest surf & turf around, toasted to the great times and lasting memories, as well as to many years of wedded bliss.

Because we could only invite a few to our private ceremony, we wanted to do something to include everyone in helping us celebrate our marriage. So, in May we had our reception at Oscar Event Center in Fairfield, Ohio. Everything was AMAZING! The food, the wait staff, the music, the space, the party! I didn’t sit the whole night. (Which means I didn’t get to try any of that amazing food everyone raved about.) Everyone was so impressed by the event at Oscar Event Center, they wished they knew about it previously. We had a selfie station with my cell phone, and encouraged people to take pics. Those were HILAROUS! Even the pictures I wasn’t a part of, I got to witness. Also, the patio was a wonderful addition so people could enjoy the Cigar Bar and not miss out on the party.

Due to scheduling, we took our honeymoon in July to Ireland. Our registry was created on Wanderable. We picked out all of our excursions, events, & B&B’s. Friends & family bought our passports, a banquet in an Old Irish Castle, Ride the Ducks in Dublin and even Kissing the Blarney Stone. It was all covered due to our great family and friends. A MAGICAL trip of a lifetime. As we were driving through the vast green between cities in Ireland, I would shriek, "EEEKKK! Ahh! Look!" My husband thought I was screaming because he was going to hit something on the narrow roads, but I was just excited to see the sheep.

Through this year of the wedding, my love and admiration for my husband has grown significantly. He is as much a partner in crime as he is a support and cheerleader, and I can only hope he sees the same in me. As we settle down to celebrate the holidays, I’m excited to start creating magical family traditions and memories.
