Save the date: Sporting Clays tournament May 11 benefits Stepping Stones’ programs

Who: Benefits Stepping Stones’ programs for children, teens & adults with disabilities New and experienced shooters are invited to a day at the Sycamore Pheasant Club Friday, May 11 for Stepping Stones’ 2nd Annual Sporting Clays Tournament.

Stepping Stones builds pathways to independence for area individuals with disabilities. The tournament will be held on a 25-station course, and will include lunch, training, and a postevent reception. Tickets are $250 for a single shooter, or $1,000 for a foursome. "Through this event, we’re trying to do a small part to provide much-needed respite from the demands of caregiving for families," Stepping Stones Board of Trustees Member Brian Folke, event co-chair of Indian Hill, said. "Building on last year’s successes, we have solidified several new corporate sponsors and partnerships. And, our new venue provides easy access for new participants for this day of sportsmanship." The targets used in sporting clays are the same as those used in skeet and trap shooting. However, the clays may vary in size and are thrown from different angles and distances to simulate pheasant or duck hunting. Many bird hunters shoot sporting clays in the off-season to practice their skills. Joining Folke on the Sporting Clays planning committee are co-chair Peter Borchers, Indian Hill; Kevin Frazier, Indian Hill; Mark Hill, Symmes; Eppa Rixey, Indian Hill; and Roger Winters, Terrace Park. The Sporting Clays Tournament platinum sponsor is the Austin E. Knowlton Foundation. Additional sponsors include: SugarCreek/Julie and John Richardson, the Wyler Family Foundation, PNC Bank, Brock & Scott PLLC, and Beacon Orthopaedics/Dr. John Bartsch. Food will be provided by Flipdaddy’s and Jersey Mike’s. Stepping Stones is a United Way partner agency serving more than 1,000 people with disabilities in day and overnight programs that increase independence and promote individual success. The 53-year-old agency provides educational, recreational and social programs at locations in Batavia, Indian Hill, Monfort Heights and Norwood.
