(US and Canada) Ron Zochalski, CTO and CISO of Lake County Government – Indiana, speaks with Jeff Strane, Director of Strategy for Public Sector at SHI, in a video interview about his duties at the county level, the transition to digital, and his role in academia.

Zochalski works with the chief operations officer and handles all technology-related issues, physical security, and information security on the digital roadmap. He has digitized paper processes, upgraded systems, and implemented e-filing for attorneys.

Court operations are digitized and streamlined significantly, he says. People can attend court without having to travel thanks to the virtual courts, Zochalski adds.

Continuing, he discusses his teaching role and delivering real-world computer science instruction. Various audiences, including nurses, financial professionals, and computer science professionals, benefit from Zochalski’s real-life use cases. He notes that they need the tools to be successful in their jobs because everything today requires a computer system. Zochalski also mentions that he teaches cybersecurity and hardware and software implementations.

In conclusion, Zochalski reveals that he is trying to build a cybersecurity program that involves three separate schools — computer science, business, and law enforcement.
