(US and Canada) Jodi Morton, Global and U S Chief Data Officer, KPMG US, speaks with Mitchell Roberts, Director of Product Marketing and Business Development, TripleBlind, about performing her duties at a global scale and security standards for different data.

Morton says that while a lot is going on in different geographies, it is crucial to go to the right people within the organization for guidance and counsel on risk compliance and legal matters. She mentions that KPMG’s enterprise data lake has different zones within that have different levels of security and control. For example, HIPAA data requires a different standard of care and control than public data.

Morton explains that the global data strategy will continually evolve as things need to be enhanced and improved with new data popping up with new policy regulations. She reiterates that close partnerships with the legal and risk departments are critical in this area.

Morton explains that not all data is created equal and requires governance and control based on the type and how it will be used. She points toward the concept of fit-for-purpose in the organization’s strategy and data governance standard. It includes the nature of the data, the required controls, and its use cases.
