VIDEO | Global Furniture Group Director Data & Analytics: Change One Thing at a Time

(US and Canada) Michael Morris, Director Data & Analytics, Global Furniture Group, speaks with Mark Johnson, Editorial Board Chair, CDO Magazine, and Regional VP, Fusion Alliance, in a video interview about the organization’s business, its data analytics journey and building the IT team.

Global Furniture Group is the largest office furniture manufacturer in Canada. Morris says his organization’s analytics journey started five years ago. Adoption has been an uphill battle for the 60-year-old organization, Morris adds. He chose to change one thing at a time.

Regarding his own learning and approach to solving problems, Morris says he listens to other leaders across the industry and learns how they helped their organizations. He adds that Global Furniture Group has a small but growing team of data analysts covering a wide range of responsibilities such as data pipeline, management, analysis, and cleaning.

In response to the question about the need for data usage while protecting customer data, Morris says Global Furniture Group uses data internally and doesn't share it externally. The self-service analytics platform has security measures based on user level that limit what they can see.

He reveals that Global Furniture Group has partnered with a large company to set up its cloud framework. While security isn’t his area of expertise, Morris brought together experts who manage the organization’s security.
