Maggie Shi, Westpac Chief AI Innovation Officer
Westpac has appointed Maggie Shi as Chief AI Innovation Officer, a newly created role to advance artificial intelligence and generative AI adoption at enterprise scale. In this role, Shi leads the bank’s AI innovation agenda, identifying, incubating, and scaling high-impact AI opportunities across the organization.
Shi will be responsible for shaping the strategic direction of AI innovation, aligning emerging technologies with business priorities, and translating AI advancements into practical, responsible, and customer-focused outcomes. She will work across business, technology, data, risk, and operations to accelerate adoption and embed AI into products, services, and decision-making.
“This new role feels so meaningful to me. It is a newly created role focused on helping drive AI and GenAI adoption at enterprise scale, bringing together AI, engineering, data, and automation to create meaningful and lasting impact,” Shi shared in a LinkedIn post.
Shi joins Westpac from Commonwealth Bank, where she most recently served as Distinguished Engineer, leading engineering efforts across data and AI platforms, including generative AI and MLOps. She has more than 25 years of experience across industries, with a focus on large-scale AI transformation, including the deployment of generative and agentic AI capabilities in enterprise environments.
Prior to that, she spent six years at Meta as Head of Business Engineering for Australia and New Zealand, Japan, and Korea, where she led regional engineering teams and supported the development of data-driven and automated solutions at scale.
