Ward Williams, a UK-based independent built-environment consultancy, has brought on Tom Heath as its first Chief Data and AI Officer on an interim basis, to accelerate the safe adoption of artificial intelligence across the organization.

Heath joins from the multinational engineering and built-environment consultancy Arup, where he served as Global Director of Data Science and AI. At Arup, he led firm-wide AI development and adoption, driving improvements in efficiency, quality, and innovation within a safe and responsible AI framework.

In a LinkedIn post, Ward Williams said Heath’s appointment supports its push to advance the use of AI across the business.

Commenting on his new role, Heath said, “Ward Williams is a dynamic and forward-looking company, with bold vision, strong client relationships, and a commitment to the communities it serves. AI provides major opportunities across architecture, engineering and construction as a whole. I believe Ward Williams can take a leading role in realizing these opportunities.”

Senior Partner James Beckly said Heath’s engagement follows earlier discussions at a 2023 firm event, adding that the partnership is focused on leveraging data, technology, and AI to add value for teams, delivery, and clients.
