US Department of Commerce Taps George Forbes as Chief Information Officer

The U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security has tapped George Forbes as its new Chief Information Officer. Forbes made the announcement in a LinkedIn post.

Forbes brings extensive experience in IT and data management. Most recently, he served as Deputy Chief of Staff for the Data and IT Operations Division of the U.S. Air Force, overseeing critical initiatives and operational programs. He began his career in the Air Force in October 2020 as a Technical Director.

Before his military service, Forbes held several leadership roles at the Department of Housing and Urban Development, including Senior Advisor to the Chief Data Officer. He joined the department in August 2014 as a General Engineer, progressing through multiple positions and gaining deep expertise in data and technology leadership.

Commenting on his new role, Forbes said, “Grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside dedicated public servants and contribute to our national mission. Excited for what lies ahead—new challenges, new collaborations, and a chance to make a meaningful impact.”
