Reid Novotny, U.S. Cyber Command Chief AI Officer
The U.S. Cyber Command has appointed Reid Novotny as its Chief AI Officer and DoW Cyber Force Generation lead, marking a significant step in the organization’s efforts to accelerate AI adoption across cyber operations.
Novotny announced the move in a recent statement, describing the period as “a pivotal moment in world history” as AI rapidly reshapes global competition, national defense, and military readiness. He emphasized the need for clarity, discipline, and purpose as the technology continues to advance at an unprecedented speed.
In his new role, Novotny will oversee initiatives to integrate AI into the U.S. Cyber Command’s mission sets, strengthen cyber force capabilities, and enhance decision advantage. His priorities include driving responsible innovation, scaling advanced AI capabilities, and building partnerships across the Department of War, industry, and academia.
With more than 24 years of service in the U.S. Air Force and Maryland Air National Guard, Novotny brings extensive experience across intelligence, cyber defense, and policy. His career includes roles as Senior Military Policy Advisor to the Office of the National Cyber Director at the Executive Office of the President; Senior Intelligence Officer and Chief Information Officer for the National Guard Bureau’s intelligence and cyber operations; and Deputy J5 at U.S. Cyber Command, where he helped shape strategic planning for cyberspace operations.
He holds a Master of Science in Computer Security from The George Washington University and a Master of Arts in Strategic Communications from George Mason University.
