Jeremy Pelegrin, UMass Amherst CISO

The University of Massachusetts Amherst has named Jeremy Pelegrin as its new Chief Information Security Officer. Pelegrin will oversee the university’s cybersecurity program, focusing on protecting critical systems and data that support its academic and research mission.

He joins UMass Amherst from Tulane University, where he served as CISO. At Tulane, he strengthened cybersecurity governance, advanced identity management and endpoint security initiatives, and modernized operational practices. His efforts earned him the 2024 President’s Staff Excellence Award for building strong, collaborative partnerships across academic, medical, and research communities.

With 28 years of experience, Pelegrin has built a career in higher education information security leadership. His background includes leading governance, risk, and compliance initiatives, fostering team development, and driving operational efficiencies. He is recognized for developing cross-functional partnerships and aligning security strategies with the broader mission of the institutions he has served.
