(US and Canada) The U.S. Department of State has recently appointed Richard Patterson as Chief Data Officer for the Bureau of the Comptroller and Global Financial Services (CGFS).

Prior to his current role, Patterson served as the Chief Data Officer of the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), where he joined in 2019 to establish the enterprise data management program. He was responsible for strategy, analytics, and coordination of data management activities across the Security Cooperation community. 

A proven data executive, Patterson has over 25 years of experience transforming data into information to improve decision-making and drive operational efficiencies. He has been an employee of and a consultant to Fortune 500 companies and the federal government.

His areas of expertise include data governance, metadata, analytics, and data visualization. He focuses his skills on developing new capabilities, delivering value to end users, and building coalitions within and across organizations. Patterson holds a position on the CDO Magazine Global Editorial Board, showcasing his contributions to the field of data.
