Gurpreet Atwal, Truist Chief Data Officer of Consumer and Small Business Banking
Truist has appointed Gurpreet Atwal as the Chief Data Officer (CDO) for Consumer and Small Business Banking (CSBB). In this role, Atwal will lead CSBB’s data strategy, oversee data solution delivery, advance analytics, and support the bank’s data governance program to unlock insights that drive growth, enhance client experiences, and ensure safe, sound, and ethical practices aligned with Truist’s Purpose, Mission, and Values. He will report directly to the division’s leadership.
Atwal brings more than 20 years of experience in data strategy, analytics, platform modernization, and regulatory compliance across global financial services. He spent over a decade at Mastercard in senior data and analytics leadership roles, where he drove enterprise data-platform modernization, GDPR compliance initiatives, cloud-native transformations, and award-winning analytics solutions that accelerated time-to-insight for issuers, acquirers, and partners.
Prior to Mastercard, Atwal led large-scale credit and payments data integration programs, syndicated analytics platforms, and multi-country data-governance expansions at Argus Advisory (TransUnion), and earlier contributed to major data architecture and systems integration projects at Infosys.
Known as a strategic and forward-looking leader, Atwal blends deep technical expertise with strong business judgment, enabling him to bridge engineering, operations, product, and regulatory teams to deliver enterprise-grade solutions at a global scale. His track record demonstrates a consistent ability to modernize legacy ecosystems, navigate regulatory complexity, and deliver data-driven solutions that generate measurable value.
