(US and Canada) The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has appointed Taka Ariga as Chief Data Officer. Ariga will lead the Human Capital Data Management and Modernization directorate. In this role, Ariga will oversee efforts to enhance data governance, data science, and artificial intelligence within the agency.
Before joining the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, Ariga was the first Chief Data Scientist and the Director of the Innovation Lab appointed by the Comptroller General of the U.S. for the Government Accountability Office (GAO). He was responsible for driving the adoption of emerging technologies (AI, blockchain, and other cyber-physical systems) to transform and strengthen GAO's oversight capacity. He was also the lead author of GAO's AI Accountability Framework.
“After a few weeks of whirlwind travels, I am thrilled to begin the next chapter of my civil service as Chief Data Officer for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), leading the work of its Human Capital Data Management and Modernization directorate. While one is never fully prepared for a new domain, I am ready for the exciting challenge that brings together Data Governance, Data Science, and AI to transform OPM’s role as the preeminent human capital service provider for more than 2 million employees that make up the federal workforce,” shared Ariga in his LinkedIn post.
