Sainsbury’s Appoints Andrew Hill as Chief Data Officer

Andrew Hill, Sainsbury’s Chief Data Officer

(EMEA) Sainsbury’s, one of the UK’s largest supermarket chains, has appointed Andrew Hill as Chief Data Officer. In this role, he will lead the company’s newly established Data and Analytics function, supporting business performance through data and AI.

Hill brings extensive experience in data and advanced analytics, having worked with leading retailers and FMCG companies for over 27 years. Before joining Sainsbury’s, he was the Chief Data Officer at Unilever, overseeing the company’s global data, advanced analytics, and information strategy.

Prior to Unilever, Hill spent more than two decades at dunnhumby, where he played a key role in the company’s growth as a leader in customer science and retail media. During his tenure, he worked with major retailers, including Tesco, Kroger, and Whole Foods, and held leadership positions such as Chief Operating Officer of dunnhumby North America and dunnhumby Italia.

Hill has been recognized as an influential figure in the global data space. In 2023, he was ranked seventh on the DataIQ 100 list of the most influential people in data and analytics. He was also named the most influential person in data by DataIQ in 2022.
