The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has appointed Michael Boyce as Director of its AI Corps. Boyce joins DHS from the White House Office of Management and Budget, where he worked as Program Examiner in the International Affairs Division and as Senior Policy Analyst before that.

The AI Corps was formed earlier this year following President Biden’s Executive Order on AI to drive strategic efforts towards combating fentanyl, addressing child sexual exploitation and abuse, facilitating immigration services, ensuring travel security, bolstering critical infrastructure, and enhancing cybersecurity.

“Having worked on AI policy and the recent executive order, my colleagues know that I was often a voice advocating for the criticality of implementation to accompany strong policy. That is why I was so honored to be offered to lead the largest AI team (that I’m aware of) created in response to the National AI Talent Surge launched by that EO,” Boyce mentions in a LinkedIn post.

Prior to his roles at the White House, Boyce was Chief of Innovation for the Refugee, Asylum and International Operations Directorate at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and Product and Strategy Lead at the U.S. Digital Service.
