Tamar Shapiro, MetLife Chief Data & Analytics Officer

We are pleased to announce Tamar Shapiro as the newest member of CDO Magazine’s Global Board. Shapiro is the Chief Data and Analytics Officer (CDAO) at MetLife, where she leads the global enterprise data and analytics strategy across AI, data science and data engineering. With an emphasis on driving business growth and operational efficiency, Shapiro is dedicated to uncovering innovative opportunities to leverage MetLife’s data and insights for competitive advantage.

Before joining MetLife, Shapiro was a Partner of Data Science & AI at TZP Group, a New York based private equity firm. In this role, she leveraged data, analytics and AI to unlock profitability across portfolio companies and optimize investment decisions.

Previously, Shapiro was the Head of Analytics at Instagram, where she led a team of data scientists and data engineers responsible for analytics across engagement, revenue and growth. Her team used AI, machine learning, experimentation and advanced analytics to identify opportunities and launch products and services tailored to the needs of Instagram’s more than 1 billion daily users.

Prior to Instagram, she was Head of Analytics at Foursquare, where she led teams responsible for product analytics for the company’s consumer apps and built a B2B data product to monetize its rich location data.

Shapiro holds a Bachelor of Science in Statistics and Biometry from Cornell University and a Master of Science in Engineering from Columbia University. She is a passionate advocate for women in technology and has served as a mentor for Built By Girls, Minds Matter, and Women Unlimited, as well as a speaker for Girls Who Code, as a board member of Women in Data Science Worldwide and as co-chair of the Analytics Collective.
