Merck has named Gaurav Gupta Executive Vice President and Chief Information and Digital Officer, effective September 1. As CIDO, he will lead Merck’s information and digital organization.

Gupta joins Merck after more than 27 years at Ernst & Young (EY), including more than 16 years as a Partner/Principal. Most recently, he served as a Senior Partner in EY’s Life Sciences Digital practice, where he led high-performing teams that designed and delivered AI and digital solutions across the life sciences value chain to drive tangible business outcomes.

In a LinkedIn post, Gupta thanked Dave Williams for his leadership, partnership, and thoughtful approach to the transition. He acknowledged Williams’ vision and contributions as EVP and CIDO, noting that they helped shape Merck’s foundation as a digital leader in the industry.

“I look forward to building on this momentum and advancing key priorities across the business, including the continued evolution of AI, data, and technology to drive innovation as we pursue Our Purpose to save and improve lives around the world,” Gupta said.
