Kirsten Davies, US Department of Defense CIO
Kirsten Davies has been sworn in as Chief Information Officer at the U.S. Department of Defense, becoming the Pentagon’s CIO in the current administration. Her swearing-in took place on December 23, following Senate confirmation on December 18 as part of a broader group of technology leadership nominations.
Davies announced the milestone in a January 5 LinkedIn post, writing, “I’m excited to announce I was recently sworn in as Chief Information Officer at the United States Department of War!” She added that she is “grateful beyond words to President Donald J. Trump and Secretary Pete Hegseth for placing their confidence and trust in me to lead the Technology and Cyber Portfolios at DoW in support of our warfighters and America’s national security.”
First nominated for the role in May 2025, Davies brings extensive experience across information technology and cybersecurity. Her background includes senior roles in the private sector with organizations such as Unilever, the Estée Lauder Companies, and Booz Allen Hamilton. She is also the founder and former CEO of the nonprofit Institute for Cyber, which focuses on advancing digital safety.
Prior to Davies’ confirmation and swearing-in, the duties of Pentagon CIO were performed by Department of Defense Chief Information Security Officer Katie Arrington.
