Declan O’Gorman , HSBC UK CIO for Retail Banking & Wealth

HSBC UK has appointed Declan O’Gorman as Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Retail Banking & Wealth, where he will oversee the technology strategy, operational resilience, and digital transformation initiatives supporting the bank’s HSBC UK, first direct, and M&S Bank brands.

In this role, O’Gorman will oversee a change portfolio focused on modernizing legacy platforms, accelerating digital channel growth, and delivering business value across the organization.

O’Gorman joins HSBC UK following an 11-year tenure at NatWest Group, where he most recently served as Head of Enterprise Engineering. In that role, he was responsible for the bank’s engineering strategy, platforms, and practices supporting 15,000 technology professionals across multiple business segments. Earlier, he served as CIO of Digital & Engineering Services at RBS, leading digital transformation platforms across retail, commercial, and markets businesses.

“The scale of the operation here is incredible: the technology teams support 14.8 million customers across HSBC UK, first direct and M&S Bank. Having been an HSBC customer since 2008 this is an exciting and deeply personal opportunity to support these amazing brands, the teams behind them, and the individuals they serve,” O’Gorman shared in a LinkedIn post.
