(US and Canada) General Motors (GM) has named Barak Turovsky as its new Chief AI Officer, marking a strategic move in the automaker’s continued push to integrate artificial intelligence into automotive technology. Turovsky brings more than 25 years of experience in AI-driven innovation, including leadership roles at Google and Cisco, where he spearheaded advancements in generative AI, large language models, and AI-powered enterprise solutions.

Announcing his new role, Turovsky expressed enthusiasm about joining GM at a pivotal time in its technological transformation. “It’s an incredible time to be part of GM’s journey, and I’m eager to contribute to the company’s innovation in applying AI to automotive technology,” he stated. He also noted GM’s rich history, emphasizing the cultural significance of brands like Chevrolet and Cadillac in shaping modern transportation.

Turovsky most recently served as Vice President of AI at Cisco, where he led research, engineering, and product teams in developing advanced AI technologies. Prior to that, he spent a decade at Google as Director and Head of Product for the Languages AI division within Google AI. During his tenure, he played a key role in enhancing AI-powered experiences across Google products, including Search, Translate, Ads, and Cloud services. His expertise also extends to mobile commerce, having led product development in mobile shopping and payments at Google.

Beyond Google and Cisco, Turovsky held leadership positions as Chief Product and Technology Officer at Trax, a provider of AI-driven Computer Vision solutions for the retail industry, and as an Executive in Residence at Scale Venture Partners, a venture capital firm specializing in enterprise technology.

A global professional with experience across Russia, Israel, and the United States, Turovsky holds an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Tel Aviv University.

As Chief AI Officer at GM, Turovsky is expected to play a crucial role in advancing the company’s AI capabilities, focusing on innovations that will shape the future of automotive technology. His appointment signals GM’s commitment to harnessing AI for enhanced vehicle performance, autonomous driving, and next-generation mobility solutions.
