Florida State University Appoints James Hunt as CDAO

James Hunt, Florida State University CDAO

(US and Canada) Florida State University has named James Hunt as its First Associate Vice Provost and Chief Data and Analytics Officer. This new role highlights FSU’s dedication to utilizing data and analytics to advance its strategic priorities and institutional performance.

Hunt has been a member of FSU’s Office of Institutional Research since 2016, where he has served as director. In his expanded role, Hunt will oversee data governance, literacy, and administrative data science, supporting FSU’s efforts to remain a leader in institutional data and analytics.

As director, Hunt contributed to FSU’s strategic planning efforts, improving statewide metrics, national rankings, and student success, including record-breaking retention and graduation rates. He has also played a key role in enrollment management by analyzing data related to student performance and behavior.

Hunt earned both his master’s and doctoral degrees from FSU and previously held roles in the Office of Student Affairs. He also serves as president of the Southern Association for Institutional Research and is a board member of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities’ Commission on Information, Measurement, and Analysis.
