American independent, nonprofit Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) has appointed Remi Raphael as Vice President of AI Transformation and Chief AI Officer. The appointment underscores EPRI’s focus on leveraging AI to address rising electricity demand and accelerate innovation in the energy sector.

Raphael brings extensive experience in digital transformation, most recently serving as Head of Digital Technology at Origis Energy, where he developed its GenAI strategy. His career also includes leadership roles such as Director of Business Transformation at Duke Energy and Vice President of Digital Technology at EDF Renewables.

At EPRI, Raphael will oversee the development of EPRI.AI and the Emerging Tech Connect platforms, working closely with Executive Director of AI and Quantum Jeremy Renshaw to lead a dedicated AI team. His mandate includes fostering collaboration, driving innovation, and positioning EPRI as a global leader in AI applications for power and energy.

Raphael’s work will intersect with key EPRI initiatives, including DCFlex, which examines how data centers can provide grid services and currently involves more than 45 global members, and the Open Power AI Consortium, which is building an AI model for the power sector with over 100 members worldwide. Raphael will report to Daniel Brooks, Senior Vice President of Energy Delivery and Customer Solutions.
