(US and Canada) We are pleased to welcome Emeka Igwilo to CDO Magazine’s Global Editorial Board. Igwilo is Chief Data Officer and Vice President of Operations Support at Southern Company Gas, a subsidiary of Atlanta-based utility giant Southern Company.

As CDO, Igwilo oversees the Enterprise Decision Support and Data Governance organization (EDGE), the Enterprise Asset Management Program (MATRiX), the GIS and Asset Data Services organization, and the Business Operations Technology Services (BOTS) organization. He has been leading efforts to operationalize Artificial Intelligence (AI) within Southern Company Gas.

Additionally, in his Operations Support role, Igwilo manages enterprise functions including leak survey management, emissions measurement, asset protection, and the legacy cross-bores program. These efforts benefit 4.4 million customers across multiple states served by Southern Company Gas utilities and operations.

Igwilo earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from DeVry University and an executive MBA from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He also completed the McKinsey Black Executive Leadership Program and the Southern Company Leadership Academy. Recently, Igwilo was named a Top 25 Data Leader by CDO Magazine.

He serves as the Executive Sponsor for Southern Company Gas’ enERGy employee resource group in Illinois and is Nicor Gas’ Executive Sponsor for Chicago United’s Corporate Inclusion Institute. He is a graduate of Leadership Columbia County and serves on the board of the YMCA of Metro Chicago.

Igwilo resides with his wife and three children in Atlanta and Los Angeles.
