The Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS), a nationwide organization representing banking regulators from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, has appointed Bo Berlas as its Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).
Berlas joins CSBS after serving as the CISO at the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), where he led the agency’s cybersecurity strategy, policy, operations, and security program implementation. With over 21 years of combined experience in Information Technology and cybersecurity across both private industry and the federal government, Berlas brings a wealth of expertise to his new role.
At GSA, Berlas spearheaded significant initiatives, including the development of the framework for security assessments and authorizations of cloud solutions in government. He played a key role in facilitating some of the first cloud authorizations and contributed to the development of the FedRAMP program and FedRAMP Tailored. Additionally, he led efforts to transform GSA’s cybersecurity posture through advancements in enterprise security visibility, security automation, DevSecOps, and ongoing authorization/continuous monitoring.
Prior to his role as CISO, Berlas served as Director of Security Engineering at GSA, overseeing security architecture and engineering, cloud security, and incident response capabilities. He holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Finance and Decision Science/Management Information Systems from George Mason University, along with certifications including PMP, CISSP, CCSP, and AWS-CSA.
As CISO of CSBS, Berlas is expected to leverage his extensive experience to enhance cybersecurity and safeguard the organization’s critical operations.
