Oliver Dörler, Commerzbank Chief Data & AI Officer
(EMEA) European banking institution Commerzbank has appointed Oliver Dörler as Chief Data & AI Officer, a newly established leadership role designed to strengthen the bank’s strategic focus on artificial intelligence and data-driven innovation. This appointment is part of the bank’s broader transformation initiative, “Momentum,” which launched earlier this year.
In his new role, Dörler will oversee the development and implementation of AI-based applications across the organization, integrating AI strategy with enterprise data management. He will also lead efforts to equip employees with the necessary skills to work effectively with emerging technologies and ensure responsible AI adoption throughout the bank.
Dörler has been with Commerzbank since 2019 and most recently served as Divisional Board Member and Head of Big Data & Advanced Analytics. His background includes previous leadership positions at Deutsche Bank and Deloitte, and he holds a degree in computer science. At Commerzbank, he has played a key role in advancing the use of AI and analytics, helping lay the foundation for the bank’s AI initiatives, which have been consolidated within his division since 2017.
Commerzbank’s expanded focus on artificial intelligence includes projects like Ava, a newly launched virtual assistant that supports customer interactions in the banking app, as well as internal tools powered by generative AI to streamline employee workflows. The bank views AI as a driver of enhanced customer experiences and operational efficiency.
Christiane Vorspel, Chief Operating Officer and Member of the Board of Managing Directors, commented on the appointment, noting that bringing data and AI under unified leadership will help accelerate the development of innovative solutions for both private and corporate clients.
