California Appoints John Ohanian as Statewide Chief Data Officer

California Governor Gavin Newsom has appointed John Ohanian as Statewide Chief Data Officer at the Office of Data and Innovation.

Ohanian most recently served as Senior Policy Advisor for Data Exchange at the California Department of Health Care Services, a role he has held since 2025. Prior to that, he was Chief Data Officer and Director of the Center for Data Insights at the California Health and Human Services Agency from 2020 to 2025.

Earlier in his career, Ohanian served as President and Chief Executive Officer of 211 San Diego and Community Information Exchange from 2007 to 2020. He also previously held roles as Vice President of Finance, Operations and Planned Giving at the Alzheimer’s Association, San Diego Chapter, and as Associate Director and Consultant at the Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego. 

Ohanian holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from the University of San Diego.
