Lee Davidson, AssetMark Chief Data Officer
(US and Canada) Leading wealth management and technology solutions provider AssetMark has appointed Lee Davidson as Chief Data Officer. “Super excited to join the all-star team at AssetMark and be part of such an incredible culture of client service and advocacy. Exciting times ahead!” Davidson shared in a LinkedIn post.
Davidson will be responsible for establishing data as a strategic competitive advantage at AssetMark and unlocking new growth opportunities through advanced analytics and AI. In this role, he will build and lead a comprehensive data organization that transforms how the company leverages data and intelligent insights across all business functions.
With deep expertise in building and scaling data-driven businesses within the financial services sector, Davidson most recently served as Chief Data and Analytics Officer at Morningstar. He led a global team of over 1,500 professionals across data science, engineering, governance, operations, and platform development. Under his leadership, the division generated more than $750 million in direct revenue and achieved operating margins exceeding 45%.
In earlier roles, Davidson designed Morningstar’s flagship rating system called the Medalist Rating, which boosted analyst productivity by 10x and total coverage by 20x through a human-in-the-loop machine learning operating model and unified workflow platform. He also led development in the areas of fund research, fact sheets, portfolio analysis, portfolio construction, risk analytics, scenario analysis, and sustainability research across both public and private markets.
In 2024, Lee was named among DataIQ’s Top 100 Data Leaders in the USA. Lee has had thought leadership featured at outlets such as CFA Institute, Financial Times, Forbes, Fortune, Future Proof, and Snowflake. Lee currently advises early-stage fintech, data, and AI companies as the Managing Partner of Investiture, LLC. He also invests in early-stage data and AI technology companies through the InvestInData angel collective composed of 50+ leading data executives from across the United States.
