Asim Khan Named Chief Data and Information Officer at University at Buffalo

Asim Khan, UBMD Chief Data and Information Officer

The University at Buffalo has named Asim Khan Chief Data and Information Officer for its health sciences. He will also take on the role of Chief Data and Information Officer for UBMD Physicians’ Group and serve as Executive Director of UB Information Technology HIPAA Compliance.

Khan joins UB from Allegheny Health Network, where he was System Director of IT Business Intelligence and Interoperability. In his new roles, he will lead IT strategy across UB’s health sciences and UBMD’s 17 practice plans, focusing on digital transformation, data governance, and system integration to support patient care, research, and education.

He will oversee the implementation of the Epic electronic medical record at UBMD, a project aimed at creating a unified system across UBMD, Kaleida Health, and Erie County Medical Center. Khan will also direct UB’s information security team and the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences’ Office of Medical Computing.

With more than 20 years of experience in health care information systems, Khan has led projects in analytics, AI automation, and clinical data platforms. He holds a PhD in computer and information science, multiple master’s degrees, and a bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronics engineering.
