Pedro Uria-Recio, ADIB Chief AI Officer
Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) has appointed Pedro Uria-Recio as its inaugural Chief AI Officer. In his new role, he will lead the next phase of ADIB’s AI strategy, focusing on responsible AI deployment to enhance customer experience, risk management, operational efficiency, and employee capabilities.
Uria-Recio brings more than 20 years of experience across technology, data, and artificial intelligence. He joins ADIB from CIMB, where he served as Chief Data & AI Officer with group-level responsibility for the enterprise data and AI agenda. His work covered cloud data and machine learning platforms, advanced analytics, generative and agentic AI systems, real-time decisioning, hyper-personalization, and model risk governance across ASEAN markets.
Earlier in his career, Uria-Recio served as Chief Analytics & AI Officer at True Corporation, Vice President of Data & Analytics at Axiata, and Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company. He has also held roles at McGraw-Hill, Novell, and Veolia Water.
Uria-Recio holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a B.S. in Telecommunications Engineering. He is also the author of How AI Will Shape Our Future, which examines the impact of artificial intelligence on work, education, geopolitics, and the human condition.
Reflecting on his new role, Uria-Recio shared that he is delighted to join ADIB at a defining stage of its transformation and sees AI as a primary enabler of the bank’s Vision 2035 ambition. He noted that his focus will be on deploying AI responsibly at scale, building internal capabilities, and creating solutions that deliver tangible outcomes for customers, colleagues, and the bank.
