(US and Canada) The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) has recently appointed Jason Duke to the role of Acting Deputy Associate Chief Information Officer, a promotion from his previous position as Chief Data Officer. With a tenure spanning over three decades, Duke’s career with the federal government began in 1990, focusing primarily on IT, data management, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Duke has also served as an adjunct professor at Tennessee Tech University for an impressive 26 years. Continuously seeking to expand his knowledge and expertise, he recently completed a Ph.D. in Information Quality, as well as a Master’s degree in Information Quality from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Prior to that, he earned an MBA in Information Systems and a Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems from Tennessee Tech University.
To stay current and enhance his skills, Duke holds 12 industry certifications in the fields of IT and auditing. Furthermore, he has successfully completed the Southeastern School of Banking curriculum at Vanderbilt and acquired two diplomas from the American Bankers Association.
Within the USFWS, Duke leads an enterprise data management team and a data governance board, both of which address a wide range of data-related matters. His primary objectives revolve around preserving the valuable legacy of data collected by staff, ensuring accessibility to present and future generations, as well as the American public.
Notably, Duke serves as the lead Geographic Information Systems Specialist for the Pacific Northwest Interagency Team 3, a Type 1 Incident Management Team, and spends several months each year working wildfires in the United States.
