(US and Canada) The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security has appointed Rachel Wang as its Chief Data Officer. Using data-driven insights and strategic thinking, Wang implements top business priorities by integrating analytics and digital transformation.

Wang joined the U.S. Department of State in 2021 as Principal Product Manager. She managed a cross-functional team to deliver iterative software in the form of Data.State, the Department of State’s first enterprise data platform. She coordinated and prioritized requirements across M/SS/CfA and IRM teams, fostering an environment of collaboration, communication, and technical rigor. One of her accomplishments includes establishing a technology roadmap to deliver a Common Data Infrastructure to the enterprise, setting the strategy for how CfA and IRM onboard more bureaus and offices to the Data.State ecosystem per Agency Priority Goals.

Before joining the State Department, Rachel spent more than eight years in the private sector. Most recently, she was a manager at Deloitte, leading cross-functional teams in building end-to-end analytics solutions, providing actionable insights, and growing the analytics maturity of several organizations by applying data science techniques to the organizations’ most pressing business questions.

“Excited and honored to join the Department of State’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security as their first Chief Data Officer. I’ve seen firsthand from my time on the Afghanistan Task Force how incredibly hardworking, mission-oriented and adaptive DS is, despite the challenging environment. I look forward to problem-solving alongside my new colleagues and helping them up their data game,” Wang says in her LinkedIn post.
