(US and Canada) We are pleased to welcome Sherman Cooper to CDO Magazine’s Global Editorial Board. Cooper is Marsh’s Managing Director, Big Data & Data Science Platform Leader. He is responsible for delivering products and solutions to transform client experience through digital data and analytics. Cooper also offers strategic advice to the firm’s executive leadership on global data privacy, information protection, and their evolving impact on its digital business model.

In addition to being a strategic digital technologist, he is an expert data scientist, data thought leader, and data privacy expert, as well as a quantitative economist. He has nearly 20 years of experience in big data strategy, data management (in cloud and hybrid ecosystems), data governance, and using advanced predictive and explanatory analytics, data science, and AI/ML to drive actionable business and client insights.

Using his data policy experience, Cooper helps organizations maximize the value of data productization and ensure compliance with evolving privacy laws. He recently served as a member of the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Operationalizing Trust Working Group. Cooper previously offered guidance on data issues to governmental partners such as the U.S. Congress, the Monetary Authority of Singapore, and the German Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection. He has also advised intergovernmental partners at the United Nations, the World Bank, and academic partners, including NYU, MIT, and Georgetown University. 

As an advisor to senior leaders at more than 10 U.S. consumer banks and U.S. financial regulatory agencies, Cooper has advised the OCC, the FED, the CFPB, and the FDIC on using data-driven financial inclusion.

Before joining Marsh, Cooper was Vice President of Data Engagement, Data Strategy and Management at Mastercard. He led the global development and operationalization of strategic positions on data-related issues, including oversight of Mastercard’s Data Responsibility program to ensure ethical, consumer-centric data innovation across the company’s products, solutions and services portfolios.
