(US and Canada) Justin Marsico, Chief Data Officer and Deputy Assistant Commissioner, U.S. Bureau of the Fiscal Service, and CDO Magazine Global Editorial Board Member, speaks with Denise Collison, SHI International SVP and President of Public Sector Sales, in a video interview about the need for articulating goals to be solved with data and the organization’s digital transformation future.
Discussing how public entities should transform, Marsico says that the most important place to start for any organization is articulating the goal to be solved with data.
He emphasizes that the goal should be one of the following:
Delivering better services to customers or constituents.
Saving money for the organization.
Reducing the risk of something bad happening to the organization.
Regarding the future of digital transformation for the Bureau of the Fiscal Service, Marsico says that the organization’s focus has been to develop a proof of concept for using data more effectively with a cloud-based data solution. The team has been trying to automate a lot of work to get the data to the decision-makers faster. He mentions a partnership with the CFO office that requires more current information on the organization’s finances.
Sharing what he sees as the impact of his role, Marsico says that a key responsibility is ensuring people have a good experience while interacting with the federal government regarding its finances. He says that the experience has to be modern, seamless and secure. Marsico also mentions the importance of reinforcing trust and better informing constituents about what happens to the trillions of dollars they provide.
CDO Magazine thanks Justin Marsico for contributing his thought leadership to our global community.
