(US and Canada) Besa H. Bauta, Chief Data and Analytics Officer, State of Texas, Department of Family and Protective Services, speaks with Jeff Strane, Director of Government Strategy, SHI International Corp, in a video interview about talent-centered data and analytics strategies, using new types of data, and her key data challenges.

Discussing talent-centered data and analytics strategies, Bauta mentions the importance of mentoring and reskilling existing employees. She highlights the need to find individuals with technology and people skills, noting there will be a greater need to teach the latter.

Sharing her approach to using new forms of data, Bauta says there are now different types of data that weren’t even considered possible in the past. She mentions incorporating and mixing additional information such as sensor, movement and geolocation data to provide better insight.

According to Bauta, there will be more machine-based external environmental data from sensors and other devices in the future. She notes that the various types of data points can address different problems.

Bauta further states that with sophistication becoming commonplace, analytics tools could make business decisions in the future.

When asked about the biggest data challenge she faces in the next 12 to 18 months, Bauta says it is getting back to the foundational components like scrubbing, data collection, and data matching — things that often get overlooked.

CDO Magazine appreciates Besa H. Bauta for sharing her insights and data success stories with our global community.
