(US and Canada) Marc Johnson, Team Central Founder, speaks with Robert Lutton, Sandhill Consultants Vice President, in this video interview about the focus on low-code technology, iPaaS platform users, and the future of low-code solutions.

Johnson states that the low-code trend is not a fad and will change how software is built. It is driven by simplicity and its purpose of helping nontechnical people do more complex things. From a technical standpoint, he explains, SAAS companies have a backlog of strategic plans for their business, and low-code technology can take items off their plate.

Continuing, Johnson says low-code technology was initially considered for mid-market organizations with little to no IT. Highly technical teams and larger organizations increasingly use the platform. He points out that the idea was to make something powerful yet simple. He says that defining success for his customers can mean speed-to-market or independence.

Focusing on the challenges of building a data company like Team Central, Johnson says that managing data — an organization’s most precious asset — and its business processes at scale is a major challenge. The other challenging aspect, he mentions, is not having data sources under control.

Sharing his vision for future low-code solutions, he highlights the following:

  • There will be smarter and more complementary products in the data management and integration space. They will be able to find problems before the customers know about them.

  • There will be convergence among these solutions.

  • Citizen-developer products will come in line with the more tech-heavy products.

  • There will be increased interest in the concept of a virtual workforce.

In conclusion, Johnson adds that building a data platform is the conduit to the next wave of automation technology — a scenario where everyone in an organization has an assistant product that understands what they work on and who they interact with and helps them to be more effective in their jobs.

CDO Magazine appreciates Marc Johnson for sharing his insights and data success stories with our global community.
