(US and Canada) Subha Madhavan, Vice President & Head of Clinical AI/ML and Early Clinical Development at Pfizer, speaks with Michael C. Fillios, IT Ally Founder and CEO and CDO Magazine Editorial Board Member, in a video interview about the necessity of aligning with various stakeholders, and the best practices for managing data.

Madhavan says partnership is key, citing Georgetown University, an academic institution with the primary goal of research and education, as an example. The Georgetown University Hospital is also a member of the MedStar Health Network. She stresses the need to drive early consensus for data science projects.

Speaking on patient security and privacy issues, she says that the team is responsible for the data donated by patients for clinical research. It took the governance body about a year to establish protocols for the hundreds of researchers and thousands of patients now benefiting from them.

Highlighting the organization’s best practices for managing data across multiple functional areas, business units, or departments, Madhavan mentions the following:

  • Organizing all data into a large data-set ecosystem and allowing different functions to access it.
  • Data governance team members provisioning data on an as-needed basis.

She says that once the provisioning led to fruitful results, it became easier to justify more investment to the leadership.

Madhavan shares advice for SMBs looking to leverage data. With technologies becoming more commoditized, SMB leaders need to find their anchor clients and pursue clear business questions. Madhavan urges them to develop expertise in specific areas and be opportunistic. They also have to pivot and align business goals with issues that need to be resolved immediately.

CDO Magazine appreciates Subha Madhavan for sharing her insights and data success stories with our global community.
