(US and Canada) Aravind Jagannathan, CDO and VP of Business Transformation, Freddie Mac, talks with Chris Knerr, Chief Digital Officer, Syniti, about data lineage and its importance in financial industries.

Jagannathan shares that when he looked at data a couple of years ago, everything was basically manual or fragmented metadata repositories. Today, there is a centralized business glossary and data-related processes and lineage through Collibra that has really increased the speed to market and basically improved collaboration. Still, as you build an analytic framework, you need to have that robust lineage taxonomy to help accelerate the output and provide users with confidence.

Freddie Mac has tried to build an ecosystem of components, leveraging Collibra to better understand the company’s modernization efforts. Jagannathan maintains that the lineage governance glossary is the first step as data moves over and potential duplication is avoided. People are beginning to see all the different ways of pulling data through, he adds.

Jagannathan concludes by sharing his happiness and pride because Collibra honored Freddie Macwith its “Data Program of the Year” award in 2021.
