(Oceania) Bruno Pereira, former Director of Data, Product, and Strategy, Foxtel Group, speaks with Savio Rodrigues, Trianz Client Membership Vice President and CDO Magazine Editorial Board Member, about aligning data with business strategies, the effective use of AI at scale, the application of AI in media, and the importance of aligning teams.

Pereira says that a strategy, product, or breakthrough technology can put an organization on a competitive map, but only solid execution can keep it there. So, execution, hard work, transparency, and strong deliveries have been key in having the business on board with data innovation, he explains. He adds that his team showcases examples and results the business can achieve using data analytics.

According to Pereira, lack of knowledge and belief cause the failure to use AI effectively at scale. He stresses that CDOs need to present a good rationale for why their companies should invest more in data and analytics. They have to stand up and show the value – explain how it works and how it can make more money. He posits that, if CDOs cannot explain simple things, how can they explain artificial intelligence?

Sharing an example of AI’s application in media, Pereira says that AI helps leverage data from various sources, improve addressability, and deliver relevant advertising to customers.

Finally, Pereira speaks about the need to align teams. He emphasizes that organizational alignment leads to increased productivity, improved communication, high employee engagement and retention, fast decision making, and increased agility to respond to external forces. He showcases the work done by his team and brings them to meetings. He adds that this drives career development toward becoming future CDOs.
