VIDEO | School Outfitters Chief Innovation and Marketing Officer: Modern Threats Made Me Think Deeper About Our Security Position

(US and Canada) David Lewis, Chief Innovation and Marketing Officer at School Outfitters, speaks with Sabrina Donley, Senior Key Account Manager, Founding Team Member of CybrCastle, in a video interview about the business, the organization’s security posture, and working with CybrCastle to bridge its security gaps.

School Outfitters provides educators worldwide with furniture, fixtures, and other equipment. Lewis says the company has been growing fast and historically strong regarding technology and security. Modern attacks and threats made him realize the organization was unprepared for security incidents. In response, the organization launched a security initiative.

Lewis explains that as the organization grew, downtime became costlier, and the cost of mitigating risks became more reasonable. Finding a partner with the skills, capabilities, and resources to resolve the security gaps was essential. He notes that CybrCastle engaged with the organization’s internal resources, built the trust factor, and implemented the resolutions promptly.

Sharing advice for companies starting their security journey, Lewis highlights the following:

  • Many companies will claim to do something, but how well they do it needs to be demonstrated.

  • Not doing something about modern threats makes you vulnerable from an operations perspective and erodes customer trust.

  • Getting hit creates noise that you don't want while operating a business.

  • It is critical to get a picture of the gaps, prioritize, and set a roadmap for the journey, even if it is a multi-year roadmap.
