(US and Canada) Dr. Sankar Sreeramula, Chief Data Scientist at Asia Pulp & Paper, speaks with Maria Espona, Professor, ArgIQ (and Editorial Board member CDO Magazine), about data ethics and how it is not just about data protection and privacy issues.

Sharing his views on the topic of data ethics, Sreeramula says that digital transformation should have a code of ethics because trust in digital technology cannot be taken for granted. He mentions that digital ethics goes beyond data protection and privacy issues.

While the focus for most organizations is primarily on data protection and privacy, other critical ethical concepts like autonomy, non-discrimination, and transparency need to be considered.

Sreeramula explains that most organizations face difficulties in implementing digital ethics mainly due to the lack of recognized ethical regulations and the unavailability of staff with the necessary skills. He says that successful organizations are not only aware of ethical values but also enforce trust, honesty, fairness, confidentiality, and accountability.
