Nationwide, Director: AI Is Helping Insurance Organizations Make Sense of Big Data

Samuel Davis, Director, Software Engineering & Automation Solutions, Nationwide, speaks with Eric Coss, Customer Solutions Architect, AHEAD, about AI and Ml application in the insurance industry.

Davis says that data science is transforming all aspects of modern life. While data is collected in several ways and has been used to drive innovations within the insurance industry, AI is transforming areas such as underwriting customer service claims, fraud, detection, marketing, etc. AI is mainly helping the insurance industry to put big data to its best use.

He says one of the key goals for any software engineering leader is to reduce the need for mundane tasks, eliminate inefficient workflow processes, make sure automation is people-centric, and ensure return on investment that benefits end-users — primarily employees.

So, with artificial intelligence and machine learning being ever-changing and ever-evolving, the staff and individuals within the industry need to remain educated and informed of new innovative solutions available.

Davis says the most significant challenge Nationwide needs to overcome in 2022 is the storage of vast sets of knowledge property. Davis explains that the quantity of knowledge stored in data centers and databases is increasing rapidly. He appreciates organizations that make efforts to accommodate the need, scope, and size of the solutions while being scaled and delivered.
