(US and Canada) Atif Usman, Zimmer Biomet Global Data and Analytics Director, speaks with Michael Schwarz, Resultant Senior Vice President, in a video interview about using modern data analytics platforms for better patient outcomes, fostering data culture, and data governance in self-serve analytics.
Usman says that modern data analytics offers immense benefits to patients. Sharing an example, he notes the various types of data visualization that help senior leaders make better decisions.
When asked how he fosters a data-driven culture, Usman explains that it comes from the top Zimmer Biomet leadership. That leadership support helps build the culture across the organization so that people can access data and use various self-service technologies to derive insights.
Next, Usman speaks about ensuring data governance in self-serve analytics. He highlights a few key steps:
Know who is accountable and responsible for data and the subject matter experts who ensure that the data is updated correctly.
Understand definitions because the space evolves as the business changes.
Comprehend the organization’s data.
He also shares a couple of ways to prioritize the data-governance roadmap:
Understand the demand and the requirements of the various functional areas of the business.
Explore other companies’ use cases or those considered the industry standard.
Usman reveals that his organization publishes daily sales reports in the self-service tool from a centralized data warehouse, allowing the sales team to get the daily sales number required to ensure patients and surgeons are appropriately served.
He adds that Zimmer Biomet also has a data and analytics council of leaders from different functional areas. The council meets monthly to share and discuss ideas bounced off various business leaders and executed.
