Kirk Ball, Giant Eagle EVP and Chief Information Officer/Chief Technology Officer, Joins CDO Magazine Global Editorial Board

(US and Canada) We are pleased to welcome Kirk Ball to CDO Magazine’s Global Editorial Board. Ball is Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer/Chief Technology Officer at Giant Eagle. He joined Giant Eagle Inc. in June 2020. Ball and his teammates deliver IT solutions for the Giant Eagle enterprise, including e-commerce development, strategic technology planning, infrastructure and applications for the enterprise. In addition, Ball serves on the Giant Eagle Innovation Steering Team, helping identify, develop and implement solution innovation. Giant Eagle is a regional grocery retailer with 570 locations, including supermarkets and convenience stores.

Before joining Giant Eagle, Ball served as Vice President and CIO for The Christ Hospital Health Network, a $3 billion clinically integrated health care network with two hospitals, six ambulatory surgery centers and 150 other locations in the Southwest Ohio region. His significant accomplishments include disaster recovery solution implementation, cloud strategy development, and analytics, digital customer strategy, and technology group organization and technology strategy development/implementation.

Before he arrived at The Christ Hospital Health Network, Ball served as The Kroger Company Chief Technology Officer. He was a crucial participant in the development of the company’s emerging digital customer strategy, leading the organization responsible for delivering enterprise technology solutions and serving more than 3,000 locations across the U.S. Ball also served as Chief Operating Officer at Sunrise Technology (a wholly owned subsidiary of The Kroger Company focused on technology R&D and innovation). He also co-led the acquisitions of You Technology Inc. and Vitacost and was a key contributor to Kroger’s digital strategy development and execution. 

Ball currently serves on The Mercury Fund Advisory Board, the TrackX Board of Directors, and Silk’s Growth Advisory Board. He is a member of the Cincinnati CIO Roundtable and the Miami University Technology Advisory Board.
