VIDEO | UST UK Data Head: It's Still a Challenge to Deploy Machine Learning Models at Scale

(Europe) Heather Dawe, UK Head of Data, UST, speaks with Kellie de Leon, Treasure Data Senior Director of Content Marketing, about the role of communication within teams, challenges businesses face with data, and the implementation of advanced analytics for improving customer experience.

Sharing from her experience, Dawe says that ensuring high levels of communication across a multidisciplinary team is key to making people feel more comfortable in their roles and also delivering their work more effectively.

Speaking about the challenges businesses face in getting value from their data, Dawe indicates that they fall into two parts – data management and data governance, which the chief data officer role was established to address. She suggests that enterprises need to get a handle on their data definitions along with their data governance processes.

Dawe reveals that data management continues to be at the top of the agenda for many of UST’s clients, and that it is still a challenge to deploy machine learning models at scale. She mentions that UST works with its clients to help productionize their artificial intelligence (AI) and improve their customer experience.

According to Dawe, as enterprises become more hungry to improve customer experience, the opportunity is to be able to handle their data and build the necessary advanced analytics to develop AI.

When asked how advanced analytics can help enterprises drive better customer experience, Dawe says that it helps enterprises understand customers better by grouping different kinds of customers into buckets, assigning personas, and turning them into real people.

She adds that advanced analytics can be used to understand the different needs and requirements of those customers and how they can be better served digitally to improve their experiences.
