Walmart is deepening its bet on artificial intelligence, unveiling plans to roll out a suite of four AI-powered “super agents” designed to transform the shopping experience, streamline operations, and accelerate e-commerce growth.
The world’s largest retailer announced that these agentic AI tools—tailored for shoppers, employees, suppliers, and developers—will become the main touchpoints for interacting with Walmart’s digital ecosystem. The move is part of Walmart’s broader ambition to make e-commerce account for 50% of its total sales within five years.
Already live in a basic form within Walmart’s app, one of the agents—Sparky—assists with product suggestions and review summaries. In its advanced “super agent” form, it will also help customers plan themed events, reorder items, and even offer recipe ideas using computer vision to analyze fridge contents.
Additional agents in the pipeline include Associate, which will help staff and managers with internal tasks like leave applications and sales data insights; Marty, aimed at streamlining onboarding, orders, and ad creation for sellers and suppliers; and a Developer agent, which will serve as the foundation for future AI tools.
The company declined to comment on potential job displacement but stated the technology would create new roles. However, it has recently downsized parts of its corporate workforce and introduced automation at fulfillment centers.
