U.S. Congressman Blake Moore has introduced new legislation that would prohibit the use of artificial intelligence chatbots in children’s toys and childcare products across the United States.
The proposed AI Children’s Toy Safety Act seeks to ban the manufacturing, import, sale, and distribution of toys embedded with AI chatbot technology, citing concerns over privacy, safety, and child development.
Supporters of the bill argue that integrating conversational AI into toys could expose children to inappropriate content, encourage addictive usage patterns, and enable large-scale data collection from minors.
The proposal comes amid growing scrutiny of AI-enabled consumer products, particularly those aimed at children. Advocacy groups have also raised concerns about the reliability of safety controls, pointing to instances where AI-powered toys generated inappropriate or adult-themed responses during extended use.
The bill reflects broader efforts by lawmakers to define limits on how AI technologies can be deployed, particularly in products designed for vulnerable users such as children.
