Upwork has introduced a new app in ChatGPT that enables businesses to move from idea generation to hiring freelance talent in a streamlined workflow.
The integration allows users to describe project requirements, identify relevant professionals, and draft job postings directly in ChatGPT. From there, they are directed to Upwork’s platform, where its AI agent Uma™ assists with project scoping, contract creation, and initiating work.
The move reflects a broader shift toward using conversational AI tools as the starting point for business tasks. Upwork said the integration connects users to its marketplace of over 18 million professionals across 130 work categories and 10,000 skills.
“Human expertise paired with AI is transforming work, and this integration brings the Upwork Marketplace directly into one of the tools millions of people use to get work started,” said Peter Sanborn, chief business officer at Upwork. “You can now quickly progress from an idea in ChatGPT to hiring the right expert on Upwork in just a few steps, turning conversations into real work outcomes.”
The app supports a range of use cases, from hiring developers to build AI tools to drafting job posts for automating workflows and business operations.
“For many people, ChatGPT is where you can explore ideas, solve problems, and move work forward,” said Chaya Nayak, head of jobs and certification product at OpenAI. “We’re excited to partner with Upwork and make it easier for anyone to build a business — connecting them with the talent they need on the platforms they use every day.”
