UNESCO and LG AI Research are collaboratively developing a global Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with the aim to champion the ethical development and deployment of AI technologies. The announcement was made during a signing ceremony on the sidelines of the AI Seoul Summit in May.

The Ethics of AI MOOC, based on the Global Recommendation on the Ethics of AI adopted by all UNESCO Member States in 2021, will provide comprehensive educational materials and foster capacity-building initiatives. It is designed to equip AI practitioners, researchers, policymakers, and advocates with the necessary knowledge and tools to navigate the ethical landscape of AI, addressing crucial topics such as bias mitigation, privacy safeguards, transparency, and human oversight.

Key figures at the signing of the partnership included Dr. Kyunghoon Bae, President of LG AI Research, and Ms. Soohyun Kim, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Bangkok.

Bae expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Aligning with our vision of improving lives through AI, this partnership with UNESCO, a leader in global AI ethics policy and discourse, is highly significant. We look forward to fruitful outcomes through collaboration across businesses, international organizations, academia, and civil society to ensure AI's responsible and trustworthy development within a framework of global trust."

Kim emphasized the importance of this collaboration, noting that, "this partnership is crucial in addressing the complexities of AI governance and ensuring its responsible and ethical development on a global scale. Together, we are cultivating a global community dedicated to ethical AI practices."
