The UK government, through the Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology (DSIT), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AI research company Anthropic to explore the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in public services, security, and economic growth.
The partnership aims to responsibly advance AI technologies, ensuring they align with societal values, enhance economic prosperity, and improve public service delivery. A key focus will be leveraging AI to streamline access to government information and services while prioritizing public trust, privacy, and responsiveness.
DSIT and Anthropic, in collaboration with the AI Safety Institute (AISI), will also conduct joint research on AI security risks, working to mitigate potential challenges while maximizing AI-driven opportunities.
Future collaboration areas outlined in the MoU include using AI to drive scientific progress, securing AI supply chains, and supporting the UK’s startup ecosystem. Additionally, Anthropic’s Economic Index will be used to provide insights into AI’s impact on the economy, guiding the UK’s AI innovation strategy.
