Toyota Group has unveiled two major initiatives—the Toyota Software Academy and the Global AI Accelerator (GAIA) — to ramp up artificial intelligence and software development across its global operations.
Announced jointly by Toyota Motor Corporation, Aisin, Denso, Toyota Tsusho, and Woven by Toyota Inc., the initiatives aim to build a future-ready workforce and embed AI at the core of automotive innovation.
The Toyota Software Academy will offer around 100 courses in areas such as AI, cybersecurity, data science and vehicle regulations. It combines classroom learning with real-world training, including hands-on experience with autonomous driving systems. The program also provides access to global networks and tools like Denso’s AI-supported certification system, SOMRIE.
Meanwhile, the GAIA program is designed to integrate AI into 11 key domains, from advanced driver assistance systems and customer experience to manufacturing, robotics, and materials innovation. The initiative supports Toyota’s broader push toward smarter mobility and automation, guided by its “Jidoka” philosophy — automation with a human touch.
“While the future of AI remains uncertain, our preparations must be rooted in the traditions that define Toyota — placing people at the center of innovation,” says Dr. Gill Pratt, Chief Scientist at Toyota.
